Benefits of Outsourcing to Jamaica

Over the past decade or so, we have seen the advances of technology create a dramatic change in the way we do life.  Not only has technology impacted our personal lives, but it has also brought significant changes to the way we do business.  In fact, thanks to the advances in technology, an entirely new industry has been birthed, that industry is the Contact Center,near-shore or off-shore.

Here are some of the reasons why.

The two major areas of job growth in Jamaica are in the areas of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) center.  According to a recent article in The Gleaner, ICT and BPO are now the two most significant business sectors for the Development Bank of Jamaica. Over the past two years, the DBJ has approved over $23 million in US dollars to build about 500,000 square feet of space for these business sectors. This increased space is expected to generate up to 11,000 new jobs.

Currently, the BPO industry has been operating in Montego Bay, St. James and Kingston, however there are plans to expand this industry into other parts of Jamaica with $15million earmarked to open a center in Manchester by the end of 2014.  Last year, 2013, there were 30 BPO companies operating in the country and employing close to 14,000 persons.  The Jamaican government would like to see this number doubled by 2016 with provisions set aside to open 1.2million square feet of space for BPO centers.

Some additional benefits to outsourcing your contact center needs to Jamaica are that it is an English speaking country. In fact, it is the closest and largest English speaking Island to the United States. Operating costs are lower than that of the US and given the EST time zone, Jamaica offers operational hours that are closer to the standard US business day. Additionally, there are many direct flights to Jamaica from a number of US cities as well as Canada and the UK making business travel to your contact center convenient.   The climate and scenery is another perk of doing business in Jamaica!!

So if you are considering outsourcing some of your business practices, I would encourage you to seriously consider Jamaica.  I can tell you first-hand, you will not be disappointed.
