Montego Bay, Jamaica: A Growing Environment for BPO

Over the past couple of years, it is not uncommon to hear about businesses tightening their belts or being reluctant to grow their business beyond their current reach due to the tough economic times and this is understandable. However, here at Etech Global Services, we have found a means of growing our clients’ business beyond our borders while still keeping costs manageable.  How have we done that?  By taking advantage of the phenomenal growth opportunities for our industry in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Over the past decade, Jamaica has made great strides to develop its Information and Communications Technology Infrastructure. There are approximately 14,000 full-time call center agents employed on the Island of Jamaica and earlier this year, businessmen in Jamaica were calling for more opportunities to provide training for more agents in an effort to meet the growing demand.  The salary and growth opportunities that the BPO industry offers Jamaicans has made it an appealing industry to seek employment.

Jamaica’s geographic proximity to the United States as well as its historically strong relationship with the US, make it an ideal place for US companies to expand their business operations.  Jamaica is the third most populous English-speaking country in the western hemisphere after the US and Canada. The fact that there is no language barrier gives Jamaica a competitive edge when companies are looking to outsource certain business processes.   Additionally, since Jamaica is situated in the Eastern Time zone, this allows them to handle call traffic throughout the US business day without the need for off-shift hours.

The people of Jamaica are, by nature, a very warm and friendly people, and we have found that to be true of our Montego Bay staff.  They are an enthusiastic, well-educated populace who take pride in their professionalism, courtesy and hospitality.
