How To Stay Positive In Times Of Uncertainty?
We are now 6 months into COVID19 and not much has changed from where we were when this all started. As we witness in-person school being postponed and football seasons being cancelled, more & more businesses are shutting down while cases continue to rise across the globe.
Although it is beyond our control what goes on out there, we can control how we respond to this situation. As a leader, it is essential to remain committed to make decisions that are in the best interest of the health & wellbeing of our team members, customers, and organization.
During this time, focus on your blessings, even when life is testing and challenging us. These challenges will pass. Use this time for growth and discovery. Amid the ever-changing circumstances, news feeds and alerts, please find moments to reconnect with yourself, your loved ones, and friends.
Make sure you are doing everything in your power for those you lead and who depend on you. The only thing that is ever guaranteed in life is the gift of today. Life is a journey, not a destination. Overcoming these challenges will take some time, it will not be a sprint.
Believe in yourself. You are built for this moment and the days ahead. Turn obstacles into opportunities and wounds into wisdom. Don’t count the days of COVID19, but instead strive to make each day count for each other, our customers, and for those in our community who need us to be there.
Here are some ideas to start your day!
Stay Positive
Our thoughts become our words. Our words become our actions. Our actions become our habits. Our habits become our destiny. – Aristotle
Instead of focusing on your problems, focus on your purpose. Instead of seeing yourself as a victim, see yourself as a hero. Heroes and victims both get knocked down. The difference is that heroes get back up! The biggest heroes I know have been knocked down too many times to count but have bounced back more determined and with a greater purpose, creating a positive future for themselves and others.
Be Thankful
When you are grateful for the things in your life, big and small, you always seem to find more things to be thankful for. Be grateful that you’re safe and getting all the essential items on time.
Although the pandemic has turned our life 360-degrees, it has given us an opportunity to transform the way we live. We’re spending more time with our families, developing healthy eating habits, and accepting the new way of living. COVID19 has brought a huge social change in our personal, as well as professional life and we must embrace the positive changes.
Replace “Have to” with “Get To”
Life’s a test, mistakes are lessons, but the gift of life is knowing that you have made a difference. – Tupac Shakur
Live life as a gift, not an obligation. We GET TO, we don’t HAVE TO. This simple shift can have a dramatic impact. I get to write to you, I don’t “have to”. It is a blessing to me to be able to communicate with you, and I hope in some small way, it is to you too.
When we shift the words we use, we change the perspective and our approach towards accomplishing the targets we set for ourselves. Address your challenges in this manner and you will definitely, see the results.
Be a Blessing to Others
We are blessed to be a blessing. This doesn’t always mean contributing financially or materially. It is about giving of time and talent. It’s about loving, serving, and caring. It’s about choosing to make a difference in the lives of others each and every day.
Today I challenge you to find a way to make this year a little better, for yourself and for others.
- Many people have suffered heart-breaking losses this year and need support. Let’s support them.
- Many people are struggling with isolation and loneliness. Let’s reach out to them.
- Many people need someone to talk to and share with. Let’s be there to listen.
- Many people simply need to be encouraged to press on and ensured that this will not last forever. Let’s encourage them.
Until next time, may you make a remarkable difference in the lives of the people you touch each day. Make yourself and your happiness, health, wellbeing a priority and stay safe.
