The Power of Influence
12th in the series of Etech’s Character Commitments.
Over the past several months I’ve been writing blogs that highlight one of Etech’s twelve Character Commitments. It’s been a great series to write because its required me to review the character commitments that my company values and embraces, and second, its been a great opportunity for me to personally evaluate myself and assess if I’m doing my best to live up to these leadership qualities.
Today, I am finishing this series with my twelfth and final installment of Etech’s Twelve Character Commitments – being a positive influence.
What is a positive influence? Most of us would be able to give a definition of that or at least point to some examples of people who have been positive influences in our lives. However, to get a little better grasp of the concept, let’s break down the definition and then put it together.
Positive: Characterized by or expressing certainty or affirmation; tending to emphasize what is good or laudable; constructive.
Influence: An effect of one person or thing on another.
So a positive influence would be a good, constructive effect on someone or something. For us at Etech, being a positive influence is something that we take very seriously and work hard to demonstrate every day. In fact, our vision at Etech states it very well: To make a remarkable difference for our customers, our people, and within our communities. To me, this says that we intend to be a positive influence as a company in our industry, within our company as well as the communities where we live.
In our industry, we influence by pioneering new and innovative ways to do our jobs better. These innovations, once tested and refined, have brought about positive changes within the Call Center industry.
In our company, we also influence our team members by providing training and tools that enable them to provide a high level of customer service and satisfaction to the thousands of people who call our agents every day. This not only enables them to be the best they can be, but also influences our industry by providing capable and equipped people to handle calls, answer chats, develop technology solutions, etc.
In our community – we influence by being very intentional and consistent in reaching out and helping in our communities any way we can. You can check out our community service page on our website to see the variety of community events where we have participated, all with the desire and intention of being a positive influence. In fact, our most recent opportunity came when Etech was able to assist in a family of missing person case in the Nacogdoches community, where we are headquartered, by offering our technical resources and staff to assist Law Enforcement officers in their search.
I’m thankful to be part of a company that places a high value on influence and making a difference in the communities where we live.
I hope you have found this series as inspiring to read as I have to write. I challenge you today to seek ways that you can be a positive influence. I promise, you will be amazed at how much you receive while intending to give!
